Arabian Nights
“Arabian Nights” or “Thousand and One Nights” is a collection of tales from ancient Indian, Persian and Arabic sources. Written in Arabic between 14th and 16th century, they existed in oral tradition long before.
Ranked amongst the classics of literature, the tales have been translated in many languages, staged in theatres, filmed for screen and television and played in opera houses. In Arabic the book is originally known as Alif Laila while in Persian as Hazar Afsana.
The framework of the epic-how a newly married Shahrazad saves her life by non-stop story telling for 1001 nights – is the first story of this book.
The rich stream of anecdotes moves from myth and legends of Shahs and Caliphs through fairy tales to adventures of boys as in Aladdin, Alibaba, and Sindbad. There are long stories of social and moral significe, romances and farces, too.
As children’s entertainment, Arabian Nights are without peer. This book, lavishly illustrated in eye catching colours, make the tales all the more enchanting and memorable.
