These books follow the National Curriculum Framework (NCF), and are designed as interactive textbooks. The questions asked in the text allow the student to think, answer, and give reasons for their answers, before the teacher explains the concepts.
The activities and questions, interspersed throughout each chapter, keep them alert and interested in the concepts being taught, instead of just being passive listeners.
These books are rich in coloured images and illustrations, which help the students understand the concepts and terms explained in the text. These also help hold the students attention, and help them to remember and recollect easily what they have studied.
The books also try to do away with certain misconceptions in science- for example children when asked where a lion stays, always answer ‘in a den’. The books help correct a few such mistaken beliefs.
The books encourage outdoor and indoor activities that enable the student to understand and learn the scientific concepts in an easy and fun way. They also suggest creative and thought provoking activities which keep the students involved and interested in the learning process.
Further reading, research and discussion is encouraged by these books. Everyday and socially relevant aspects, involving the concepts studied, have also been addressed and put up for discussion. A list of questions in the Talk Time section at the end of each chapter in the book, helps to guide these discussions. However, the teacher or parent is free to discuss other aspects related to the concepts taught in the chapter.
